More and more, local people are attempting to pave the way to obtain local, affordable produce and goods. The small “Community Market”venue is an ideal solution. Semi-rural communities like ours have innumerable members who already produce some of their own food items, and would welcome an opportunity to share their local bounty with their neighbors.
In the summer of 2008, a fledgling market has been started by a small group of concerned and capable individuals. The Moneta / SML Community Market has assembled a small cadre of local citizens, including small-scale grower, livestock producer, caterer, craftspeople, and an apiary. The Moneta Library has generously offered them a site in their parking area. The initial response, in spite of the “off-the street” location, and limited signage, has been remarkably well received.
For 2010, our market moves to a new site at the Moneta Farm and Home Center :11739 Moneta Road, Moneta, VA. 24121. This new site put us “front and center” on Rt.122 the main drag of our town.
We are happy with the diversity of our vendors and feel that our market is here to stay!
